Exosome treatments are a modern approach to skin renewal and recovery without injections or lengthy downtime.

If you are reading this post, you may already have heard of exosomes or be looking for something more intensive than a classic facial. Read on to learn more.

What are exosomes and how do they work?

Exosomes are tiny biological particles that cells use to communicate. They carry information such as growth factors, amino acids and signals that help cells renew and repair themselves.

Exosomes are not new to medicine. They have been studied for years in contexts including wound healing, immune-system regulation and neurological disease. Their ability to carry specific signals and influence cell behaviour has also made them of interest in regenerative and anti-inflammatory treatment.

This background has brought exosomes into aesthetic medicine, where they are used to support skin without a heavy treatment burden while aiming for gradual, natural-looking results.

What do exosomes do in the skin?

Exosomes act like messengers, signalling cells to begin renewal, repair and collagen production. In practice, the skin may become more elastic, hydrated and even in tone.

Exosome treatment can help:

  • reduce inflammation and redness;

  • improve post-acne damage;

  • even skin tone and texture;

  • smooth fine lines and reduce a tired appearance.

Because exosomes support the skin’s natural balance instead of forcing a response, the treatment may also suit sensitive or stressed skin. Many clients describe their skin as looking rested, smoother, clearer and more vital afterwards.

Not all exosomes are the same

Exosomes can support skin recovery, but their origin, safety and regulatory status matter. Human-derived exosomes are subject to strict European regulation and are not ordinary cosmetic ingredients.

Products of human origin may carry biological risks and require appropriate regulatory approval. For this reason, clinics must select products whose composition, purity, quality controls and permitted use are clearly documented.

Research and product development have therefore focused on controlled, stable preparations produced under laboratory conditions. Documented composition and manufacturing standards help make aesthetic treatment more predictable.

Our clinic uses V-Tech exosome products, developed for the European market. These synthetic preparations are:

  • produced in controlled laboratory conditions;

  • supported by the applicable product documentation and studies;

  • suitable for clients with sensitive or problematic skin following individual assessment.

These characteristics are why we selected V-Tech as the standard in our clinic: quality and safety guide our choice.

Who may benefit from exosome treatment?

The treatment may suit many skin types and ages when the goal is to improve skin condition, support recovery or prevent signs of ageing. As it does not involve injectable administration or lengthy downtime, it may be particularly suitable for sensitive or stressed skin after individual assessment.

What happens during an exosome treatment?

The stages are:

  1. Skin preparation
    The skin is carefully cleansed of make-up, oil and dirt. Gentle exfoliation may be used to support absorption.

  2. Application of the exosome complex
    The product is applied evenly, usually to the face but also potentially to the neck, décolletage or hands. At our clinic, a Dermapen microneedling device is used.

  3. Absorption
    The session lasts around 30–45 minutes. You may feel mild warmth or tingling.

  4. Finishing and aftercare
    A protective moisturiser and, when needed, sunscreen are applied. We recommend avoiding make-up, intense exercise and saunas for at least 24 hours.

At our clinic, exosomes are applied in combination with microneedling. This creates microchannels that help the product reach the intended skin layers, while microneedling itself activates repair processes.

Compared with surface application by massage, microneedling has a clearer rationale for supporting delivery through the skin barrier. The method and product are always selected according to the skin and treatment plan.

What results can be expected?

The effects do not appear overnight. Skin condition improves gradually because the treatment supports natural repair rather than covering concerns. Over time, the skin may become stronger, more even and healthier-looking.

Results our clients have mentioned include:

  • a brighter, more even complexion;

  • smoother fine lines and firmer-feeling skin;

  • better hydration and elasticity;

  • less visible post-acne scarring, post-inflammatory pigmentation and superficial damage;

  • support for recovery after treatments such as laser or radiofrequency.

We generally recommend three sessions at intervals of two to four weeks, depending on skin condition and goals. The strongest effect typically develops four to six weeks after the final session and may last for several months.
